Just Eat name Glasgow as the UK’s curry capital

While Birmingham have for years owned the crown for being the UK’s curry capital it seems that Glasgow are now outshining them, with a recent poll conducted by Just Eat proving than Glaswegians order more curries than any more major city in the UK.

As sponsors of Glasgow’s Curry Week Just Eat wanted to gain more of an insight into the city’s love affair with Indian food, discovering that Chinese cuisine came a close second, followed by Italian food. However, one of the most surprising statistics was that  two out of every five dishes ordered in Glasgow is Indian, more than any place else in the nation.

Graham Corfield, UK Managing Director of Just Eat, said:

“As a nation we love a curry but it’s fascinating to see that Glaswegians order more Indian food than anywhere else in Britain.

There are some amazing Indian restaurants cooking brilliant dishes all across the city. We hope Glaswegians use Glasgow Curry Week to find some new, as well as some old, curry flavours to enjoy.”

While the people of London tend to be more experimental with regards to their food orders it seems that those from Glasgow tend to work with a more traditional taste, with Masala, Biryani and Korma heading the top ten ordered dishes. They were ranked as follows:

1. Masala
2. Biryani
3. Korma
4. Bhuna
5. Karahi
6. Balti
7. Jalfrezi
8. Rogan Josh
9. Dopiaza
10. Madras
